Privacy Policy
Your data, and what we do with it
Last updated: 26 June 2026.
This policy covers two separate things: the cowe app (Part 1) and the cowe waitlist on this website (Part 2). The short version: the app processes your health data entirely on your device and never sends it to us or anyone else; the waitlist only ever holds the email you choose to give us.
Part 1 — The cowe app
The one thing that matters most
cowe is built so your health data never leaves your iPhone and Apple Watch. Everything cowe calculates — your recovery, strain, sleep and related scores — is computed locally, on the device, from Apple Health data you grant access to. cowe has no account system, performs no network requests with your health data, uses no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs, and does not sync your data to iCloud or any cloud service of ours.
Health data cowe reads
With your explicit permission through Apple's HealthKit, cowe reads only the data it needs to calculate your scores on-device:
- Heart rate
- Resting heart rate
- Heart rate variability (HRV, SDNN)
- Beat-to-beat heart data (heartbeat series), used to refine HRV
- Respiratory rate
- Active energy burned
- Wrist temperature during sleep
- Sleep analysis
- Workouts
You can review and change exactly which of these cowe may read at any time in the iOS Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → cowe. cowe keeps working with whatever you allow; if you deny something, the related score may be unavailable.
Health data cowe writes
cowe writes to Apple Health in exactly one case: when you start a workout in the app on your Apple Watch, it saves that workout session to Health so live strain can keep running during exercise. cowe writes nothing else to Health.
Where your data lives
Your Apple Health readings and the scores cowe derives from them are stored in a single database on your device (in the app's protected container, shared only between the cowe app, its Apple Watch app, and its widgets/complications on your own devices). The file is protected by iOS file-level encryption. We — the makers of cowe — never receive, see, store, or have any access to it.
What we do NOT do
- We do not collect your health data. It stays on your device.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your data with anyone.
- We do not use your health data for advertising or marketing.
- We do not use it to train models or for any secondary purpose.
- We do not store it in iCloud or on our servers.
- We do not require an account, a login, or your name or email to use the app.
Your control
Because everything is on your device, you are in full control. In the app, under Settings → Your data, you can export your scores or delete all of cowe's on-device data at any time. Deleting the app from your device removes all of its data with it. You can also revoke cowe's Health access at any time in iOS Settings.
Children
cowe is a general wellness and fitness tool and is not directed at children. It is not intended for use by anyone under 16.
Not a medical device
cowe is a wellness and fitness tool, not a medical device. Its scores are informational and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or condition. Always talk to a qualified professional about health decisions.
Part 2 — The cowe waitlist (this website)
What we collect
Just your email address, the date and time you signed up, and (optionally) where you came from, so we know which channels work.
We also keep a simple, privacy-preserving visit counter — an aggregate tally of how many people open this page. It uses no cookies and we never store your raw IP address: it is turned into a temporary, salted one-way fingerprint, kept only briefly (about 30 minutes) so we don't count the same visit twice, then discarded. That fingerprint can't be reversed back to you or matched across days. We use no third-party analytics, no advertising trackers, and no tracking pixels.
Alongside that tally we keep an aggregate count per source — which channel or link sent you here — and an aggregate count per page — which page on this site you opened — so we can tell which efforts bring people in. Both are only running numbers; neither is ever tied to you, your email, or your fingerprint.
Why we collect it
To email you when cowe launches and, occasionally, a short build update — a few emails a year at most. We rely on your consent as the legal basis under the GDPR: you give it by submitting your email under the notice shown on the waitlist form. You can withdraw it at any time via the unsubscribe link in any email, or by emailing hello@cowe.app.
Who can see it
Only us. Your email is stored on our own server and is never sold, shared, or handed to advertisers or data brokers. We do not send your data outside what is needed to email you.
How long we keep it
Until cowe launches and for a short period after, or until you ask us to remove it — whichever comes first. After that the list is deleted.
Your rights
For the waitlist, you can ask us to show you, correct, or delete your data, or to stop emailing you, at any time — every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also email us directly. For the app, your data is on your device and under your control as described in Part 1. To exercise any right or ask a question, contact hello@cowe.app.
